Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 18, 2026
Shoes Off is a marketplace that connects clients with vetted independent professionals for in-home services. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers the Shoes Off mobile app and this website (including the waitlist on our landing page).
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your phone number (verified by a one-time SMS code), a password, and your name. Until you sign up, you may browse with an anonymous session that isn’t tied to your identity.
Profile information
Pros can add a profile photo, photos of their work, specialties, rates, working hours, and a service area. If you grant photo-library access, we use it only to let you choose the photos you upload.
Bookings and job details
To arrange work, we collect the details of the job: the service requested, scheduling, checklists, job posts and bids, booking adjustments, and the service address you provide (including its map coordinates, which we derive from the address to match you with nearby pros).
Location
With your permission, the app uses your device’s location while you’re using it to show vetted pros near you. You can decline or revoke this in your device settings; the app still works if you enter an address instead.
Messages and reviews
Messages you exchange with other users through the app, and reviews you leave after a job, are stored so we can deliver them and keep a record of your bookings.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers — we keep only a payment reference and the card’s brand and last four digits so you can recognize your saved payment methods. Pros who receive payouts provide identity and bank information directly to Stripe under Stripe’s own privacy policy.
Background checks (pros)
Pros on Shoes Off complete a background check through Checkr, Inc. You provide your information (such as date of birth and government identifiers) directly to Checkr, and Checkr shares the results with us. Checkr’s handling of that information is governed by its own privacy policy and applicable background-check laws.
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist on this website, we collect your name, email address, and phone number so we can contact you when Shoes Off is available to you.
Support
When you contact support from the app, we receive your message along with your account details so we can respond.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- create and secure your account;
- match clients with nearby pros and arrange bookings;
- process payments and pay out pros;
- vet pros through background checks;
- deliver messages, reviews, and support;
- contact you about the waitlist and your bookings;
- prevent fraud and comply with legal obligations.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use third-party advertising or ad-tracking in the app.
How information is shared
Between users
Shoes Off is a marketplace, so some sharing is inherent to the service: clients see pro profiles (name, photo, work photos, rates, specialties, reviews); a pro you book sees your name, the job details, and the service address; and messages are visible to the person you’re messaging.
Service providers
We share information with companies that help us run Shoes Off, only for that purpose:
- Supabase — hosts our database and authentication;
- Twilio — delivers SMS verification codes;
- Stripe— payment processing and pro payouts (including Apple Pay and Google Pay);
- Checkr — background checks for pros;
- Google Maps — map display on Android devices;
- Resend — delivers our support and transactional email;
- Expo — delivers app updates.
Legal reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and others. If Shoes Off is involved in a merger or sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. Records of completed bookings, payments, and background checks may be retained longer where we need them for legal, tax, or safety reasons.
Your choices
- Permissions — location and photo access are optional and controlled in your device settings.
- Access and correction — you can view and edit your profile in the app, or contact us for a copy of your data.
- Deletion— to delete your account and associated personal information, contact us at the address below and we’ll process the request promptly, subject to records we must keep by law.
- Waitlist— to be removed from the waitlist, email us and we’ll delete your entry.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights (such as those under the California Consumer Privacy Act) to access, correct, or delete your personal information. Contact us and we’ll honor the rights that apply to you. We do not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, row-level access controls in our database, and payment and background-check flows designed so that the most sensitive data goes directly to our specialized providers rather than through our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
Children
Shoes Off is not directed to children and may not be used by anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect information from children; if you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll notify you in the app or by the contact details you’ve given us, and update the effective date above.
